Which bookkeeping software fits you?

Invoices, your VAT return (btw-aangifte) and your records in one package: that saves hours of sorting-out every quarter. We compare six popular Dutch packages for freelancers — honestly, including what they cost and who they're not a good fit for.

Full transparency: if you sign up through a link on this page, we may receive a fee from the provider. That's what keeps every tool on this site free. It costs you nothing extra, and our opinion isn't for sale — the downsides are listed right there too.

Frequently asked questions

Is bookkeeping software mandatory for freelancers in the Netherlands?

No. You may keep your records in a spreadsheet or on paper, as long as they're complete and you keep everything for seven years. Software mainly saves time: it largely automates your VAT return, keeps invoices in order, and prevents calculation errors.

What does bookkeeping software cost per month?

For freelancers, between €5 and €35 per month, depending on how much the package does for you. Several providers are free for your first 15 months as a starter. The subscription is a business expense, so it's deductible from your profit.

Can I switch to another package later?

Yes. Most packages can import your old records and help you migrate. The most convenient moment is 1 January or the start of a new VAT quarter.

Why these six packages?

We only compare packages that genuinely fit freelancers. Six clear options with an honest story beat a list of twenty that gets you nowhere.
